Whoop it’s finally here! Totally classing this as an early birthday pressie to myself…even though I’d pre-ordered it way back when 😛

Might have to start an epic third read through when I’m back from Dublin.

You know that part in PART & PARCEL where the guys are confessing their secrets, and Zane just gets up and moves closer because he says he can’t hear?

Well, what if later on when Ty and Zane are cuddling in bed together back in their hotel room, Ty gently jokes that Zane didn’t take his turn and Zane pulls him close and whispers that he actually did. That the bomb blast that took out the book store in CRASH & BURN left him with a ringing in his ears that never quite goes away.

Sidewinder stood amongst the neat rows of white marble that stretched as far as the eye could see. They stretched too far, there were too many, so many lives lost and remembered on the sacred ground of Arlington Cemetery.

Nick held Elias Sanchez’s last letter in both hands. The paper trembled in the breeze. It certainly wasn’t Nick’s hands trembling. It certainly wasn’t that.

Zane stood to the side, watching solemnly. He didn’t feel as if he belonged on this last task. It was too personal. Too hard.

“Who wants to go first?” Kelly finally asked. They all stood staring down at the headstone. No one answered him. No one moved. After a solid minute of silence, the crinkling of the paper in Nick’s hands finally urged Kelly into action.

He stepped forward, twisting his hands together, and cocked his head at Eli’s grave.

“The last words we had were over the phone,” he began. He closed his eyes and swallowed hard.

Having just finished another Part & Parcel read through I need to go back and re-read certain scene in Cross & Crown…I appear to have missed so much! Then again I never was good at spotting the hints/foreshadowing

I love how re-readable this whole series is! with every new addition I find myself going back to see how blind I’ve been

I’m still collecting my thoughts about P&P, but I want to put this here:

“What happened?” Kelly demanded.

“We’ve got a meet tonight.”

“That was fast,” Julian said. “Jesus, what sort of in do you have with them?”

A personal one,” Nick growled. His tone made it clear that neither Julian nor Kelly were supposed to inquire further.

One thing I love about both the C&R books and the Sidewinder series is the re-read value they have. I just have to add some other little bits from this scene that, after Part & Parcel, just mean so much more and have me silently mouthing ‘oh my god’ when I re-read them.

A man sitting on a sofa behind the bodyguards stood and greeted them with a crooked smile. Something about it struck Kelly deep in his gut, like it was familiar to him.

Well I guess we know why it seemed familiar now don’t we… and then this:

Paddy stood and came closer, opening his arms for a hug that Nick returned stiffly. The mob boss pulled him close like he was embracing a son, though, patting him on the back and then on his head like a proud father might before pulling him over to the couches. “Been a while, Nicky.”

“No one calls him that anymore, boss,” Mikey informed him with a cheeky grin.

Paddy gave Nick’s cheek an affectionate tap, then sat. He gestured for all of them to take seats. Kelly was confused again. Nick had been so tense, so worried, but this was a warmer reception than Nick received at his own home when he visited.

Then right after Paddy says Nick looked just like his dead son:

I had pride in my heart for this boy just like he was my own son.”

and again, Kelly noting something, but not sure what, about Paddy’s smile (hint: it’s because it’s similar to Nick’s):

Paddy gave them that crooked grin again, and again it made Kelly uneasy.

Like jfc they flat out say it:

He climbed to his feet, and they all stood with him. He reached for Nick’s hand, shaking it warmly, and a moment later he pulled Nick into another hug. For an infamous mob boss, he sure did seem fond of the police.

This time, Nick returned the embrace a bit more sincerely. “Thank you,” Nick said, almost inaudible.

Paddy tapped Nick’s cheek with the tips of his fingers. “Don’t be a stranger, kiddo.”

“Don’t hold your breath, old man.”

Kelly swallowed hard. “You realize what you just said got me harder than five minutes of watching two people fuck.”

Nick smiled slowly.

“You are a devious asshole, you know that?”

“I do.”

Kelly barked a laugh. “Is it possible to just be attracted to one guy, instead of all guys?”

“I don’t know, Kels, anything’s possible. You’re not attracted to all women, are you?”

“Not really.”

“There you go.”

“I’m so confused,” Kelly said with a sigh.

SONG »Your Spirit’s Alive” by Dropkick Murphys

Kelly leaned forward, holding his beer up. “To Sanchez.”

Ty swallowed hard and held his beer out. Zane joined with his water bottle. The glass clinked as they each said a solemn, “Oorah.”

“Happy birthday, buddy,” Kelly said as he stared out into the night sky and finished off his beer.

“You know Nick, Doc. You know that if he thinks he’s lost something, he’ll let it go. If you told him he wasn’t him anymore, that you might not be able to forgive him for what he did, he’ll take that as contract terminated and he’ll let you go without a peep of complaint, thinking that’s what you want. If you’re waiting for him to call you or come to you and tell you he needs you back, you’re going to be waiting just like Ty did that year they didn’t speak. That’s just not who Nick is.”
